ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੪॥
ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੨॥੫੧॥

Aasaa, Third Mehl:
One may dance and play numerous instruments;
But this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching?
Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.
The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||
The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart.
Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause||
The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord;
To the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within.
My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2||
The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord.
He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
True Devotion is to remain dead while yet alive.
By Guru's Grace, one crosses over the terrible world-ocean.
Through the Guru's Teachings, one's devotion is accepted,
And then, the Dear Lord Himself comes to dwell in the mind. ||4||
When the Lord bestows His Mercy, He leads us to meet the True Guru.
Then, one's devotion becomes steady, and the consciousness is centered upon the Lord.
Those who are imbued with Devotion have truthful reputations.
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, peace is obtained. ||5||12||51||

nullnullnullnull(ਪਰ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਜੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਜੋਂ) ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਜ ਭੀ ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ)। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਦਾ) ਝੱਖੜ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਅਜੇਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਦੀਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਗ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥null(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਸ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥nullnullnullਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਚ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਨਾ। (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਾਚ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥nullnullnullਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ) ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥nullnullnullਅਸਲ ਭਗਤੀ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥nullnullnull(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਡੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧੨॥੫੧॥
