ਮਤਾ ਕਰਉ ਸੋ ਪਕਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ॥
ਸੀਲ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਖਲੋਈ ॥
ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਸਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਵਖਿ ਵਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
ਜਤਨ ਕਰਉ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਪਰੇਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਆਈ ਆਮਰਿ ॥
ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਜੀਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰ ॥
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੋਗ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸ ॥੨॥
ਜਹ ਬੈਸਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲੇ ਬੈਸੈ ॥
ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੈ ॥
ਹੋਛੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
ਕਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੪॥
ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
Whatever I resolve, she does not allow it to come to pass.
She stands blocking the way of goodness and self-discipline.
She wears many disguises, and assumes many forms,
And she does not allow me to dwell in my own home. She forces me to wander around in different directions. ||1||
She has become the mistress of my home, and she does not allow me to live in it.
If I try, she fights with me. ||1||Pause||
In the beginning, she was sent as a helper,
But she has overwhelmed the nine continents, all places and interspaces.
She has not spared even the river banks, the sacred shrines of pilgrimage, the Yogis and Sannyaasees,
Or those who tirelessly read the Simritees and study the Vedas. ||2||
Wherever I sit, she sits there with me.
She has imposed her power upon the whole world.
Seeking meager protection, I am not protected from her.
Tell me, O my friend: unto whom should I turn for protection? ||3||
I heard of His Teachings, and so I have come to the True Guru.
The Guru has implanted the Mantra of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, within me.
And now, I dwell in the home of my own inner self; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
I have met God, O Nanak, and I have become care-free. ||4||
My home is now my own, and she is now my mistress.
She is now my servant, and the Guru has made me intimate with the Lord. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||

nullnullnullnull(ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਭੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੇਂਦੀ, ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨੇੜੇ (ਰਾਖੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਖਲੋਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ ਸੀਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਸੰਜਮ)। (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵੇਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਖਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ, ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਟਕਾਂਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥null(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣ ਬੈਠੀ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੇਂਦੀ)। ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਲਈ) ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਉਲਝਣਾਂ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥nullnullnull(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਭੇਜੀ ਹੋਈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਈ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਇਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਨੌ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਨਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡੇ। ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਾਠਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨॥nullnullnullਮੈਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਆ ਬੈਠਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਬੜੇ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਦੀ। ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਦੱਸ, (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੩॥nullnullnull(ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਆਇਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। (ਉਸ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥null(ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਘਰ) ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਮਾਲਕਾ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੀ (ਦਾਸੀ) ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ॥੪॥੪॥
