ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਜਾਉ ਤ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੂਛਉ ਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਉਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
ਗਿਰਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਉਦਾਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਜੀਅ ਕਉ ਜੰਜਾਰ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੭॥੫੮॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
Journeying to sacred shrines of pilgrimage, I see the mortals acting in ego.
If I ask the Pandits, I find them tainted by Maya. ||1||
Show me that place, O friend,
Where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are forever sung. ||1||Pause||
The Shaastras and the Vedas speak of sin and virtue;
They say that mortals are reincarnated into heaven and hell, over and over again. ||2||
In the householder's life, there is anxiety, and in the life of the renunciate, there is egotism.
Performing religious rituals, the soul is entangled. ||3||
By God's Grace, the mind is brought under control;
O Nanak, the Gurmukh crosses over the ocean of Maya. ||4||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.

nullnullਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਤੀਰਥ ਉਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ 'ਮੈਂ (ਧਰਮੀ) ਮੈਂ (ਧਰਮੀ)' ਆਖਦੇ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਪੰਡਿਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥nullਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਦੱਸ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥null(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!) ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੁੰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਫਲਾਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਪਾਪ ਹਨ ਫਲਾਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇ ਕਦੇ) ਸੁਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥null(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਬਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦਾ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਨਾਲ ਆਫਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ), (ਨਿਰੇ) ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜੰਜਾਲ (ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥nullਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੀ ਸ਼ੂਕਦੀ ਨਦੀ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੪॥null(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਉਮੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਚਿੰਤਾ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਆਦਿਕ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ਪਰ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ॥੭॥੫੮॥
