Karoor Kavaandala Ko Ran Maandala To Sama Soora Koaoo Kahooaan Naahee ॥48॥

You adore the bow, and there is none other hero as great as you.( 48)(1)

Chitarvatee Nagaree Bikhi Chitar Siaangha Nripa Eeka ॥

There lived in the city of Chitervati, a Raja called Chitar Singh.

ਤੇ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਘਨੀ ਰਥ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥

Te Ke Griha Saanpati Ghanee Ratha Gaja Baaja Aneka ॥1॥

He enjoyed abundance of wealth, and possessed numerous material goods, chariots, elephants and horses.(1)

Taa Ko Roop Anoop Ati Jo Bidhi Dhariyo Sudhaari ॥

He had been bestowed with beautiful physical features

Suree Aasuree Kiaannranee Reejhi Rahata Pur Naari ॥2॥

The consorts of the gods and demons, the female Sphinxes and the town fairies, were all enchanted.(2)

Eeka Apasaraa Eiaandar Ke Jaata Siaangaara Banaaei ॥

A fairy, bedecking herself, was ready to go to Indra, the Celestial Raja of the Rajas,

Nrikh Raaei Attakati Bhaeee Kaanja Bhavar Ke Bhaaei ॥3॥

But she stymied on the vision of that Raja, like a butterfly on the sight of a flower.(3)

Seeing the Raja the Fairy was captivated.

Patthee Dootikaa Chhala Kari Milan Aupaaei Ko ॥

Planning to meet him, she called in her messenger.

‘Without meeting my beloved I would take poison,’ she told her

Ho Maari Kattaaree Mariho Gharee Na Jeevaho ॥4॥

Messenger, ‘Or I would push a dagger through me.’(4)

Taahi Dootikaa Raaei So Bheda Kahaio Samujhaaei ॥

The messenger made the Raja to empathize with her (the fairy).

ਬਰੀ ਰਾਇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਮਨ ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਢੋਲ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

Baree Raaei Sukh Paaei Man Duaandabhi Dhola Bajaaei ॥5॥

And, rejoicing with the beats of the drums, the Raja took her as his bride.(5)

ਏਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਭਯੋ ਅਮਿਤ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਖਾਨਿ

Eeka Putar Taa Te Bhayo Amita Roop Kee Khaani ॥

The Fairy gave birth to a beautiful son,

ਮਹਾ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਹੂੰ ਰਿਸਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਾਮਦੇਵ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿ ॥੬॥

Mahaa Rudar Hooaan Risi Kare Kaamdev Pahichaani ॥6॥

Who was as powerful as Shiva and passionate like Kamdev, the Cupid.(6)

Bahuta Barsi Saanga Apasaraa Bhoopti Maane Bhoga ॥

The Raja had the pleasure of making love to the Fairy for many years,

Bahuri Apasaraa Eiaandar Ke Jaata Bhaeee Audi Loga ॥7॥

But one day the Fairy flew away to the Domain of Indra.(7)

Tih Binu Bhootati Dukhita Havai Maantaree Laee Bulaaei ॥

Without her company the Raja was extremely afflicted, and he called in his ministers.

Chitar Chitri Taa Ko Turita Desan Dayo Patthaaei ॥8॥

He got her paintings prepared and, to trace her at home and abroad, displayed them everywhere.(8)
