ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਜਾਟ ਇਕ ਰਹੈ ॥

Jodhan Dev Jaatta Eika Rahai ॥

There lived a Jat, the peasant, named Jodan Dev.

ਮੈਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜਗ ਅਹੈ ॥

Main Kuari Tih Triya Jaga Ahai ॥

He had a wife who was addressed by the name of Maan Kunwar.

ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਸੋਇ ਜਬ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

Jodhan Dev Soei Jaba Jaavai ॥

When Jodan Dev would go to sleep,

ਜਾਰ ਤੀਰ ਤਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

Jaara Teera Taba Triyaa Sidhaavai ॥1॥

she would go out to her paramour.(1)

ਜਬ ਸੋਯੋ ਜੋਧਨ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

Jaba Soyo Jodhan Badabhaagee ॥

Once, when Jodan Dev was in slumber,

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮੈਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਜੀ ਜਾਗੀ ॥

Taba Hee Main Kuari Jee Jaagee ॥

Maan Kunwar woke up.

ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਛੋਰਿ ਜਾਰ ਪੈ ਗਈ ॥

Pati Kou Chhori Jaara Pai Gaeee ॥

Leaving her husband, she came to her lover but when she returned

ਲਾਗੀ ਸਾਂਧਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰ ਗਈ ॥੨॥

Laagee Saandhi Drisatti Par Gaeee ॥2॥

she noticed her house broken into.(2)

ਤਬ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪਲਟਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਵਹੁ ਆਈ ॥

Taba Griha Palatti Bahuri Vahu Aaeee ॥

ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਜਗਾਈ ॥

Jodhan Devahi Dayo Jagaaeee ॥

On entering the house she woke Jodan Dev up and asked,

ਤੇਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਕੌਨ ਕਹੁ ਹਰੀ ॥

Teree Mati Kouna Kahu Haree ॥

‘What had happened to your senses?

ਲਾਗੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਹਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੩॥

Laagee Saandhi Drisatti Nahi Paree ॥3॥

House is being burgled and you don’t know.’(3)

ਜੋਧਨ ਜਗਤ ਲੋਗ ਸਭ ਜਾਗੇ ॥

Jodhan Jagata Loga Sabha Jaage ॥

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿ ਚੋਰ ਤਬ ਭਾਗੇ ॥

Griha Te Nikasi Chora Taba Bhaage ॥

Along with Jodan, other people awoke too and the thieves tried to slip out of the house.

ਕੇਤੇ ਹਨੇ ਬਾਧਿ ਕਈ ਲਏ ॥

Kete Hane Baadhi Kaeee Laee ॥

ਕੇਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਸਤ ਭਾਜਿ ਕੈ ਗਏ ॥੪॥

Kete Tarsata Bhaaji Kai Gaee ॥4॥

Some were killed and some managed to escape.(4)

Jodhan Dev Phulita Bhayo ॥

ਮੇਰੌ ਧਾਮ ਰਾਖਿ ਇਹ ਲਯੋ ॥

Jodan Dev was satisfied that his woman had saved the house.
