ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਢੂਢੀਆ ਕੋ ਨੀਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮੈਡਾ ॥
ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਤੂ ਮੈ ਹਉ ਤੈਡਾ ॥੧॥
ਦਰੁ ਬੀਭਾ ਮੈ ਨੀਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕੋ ਕੈ ਕਰੀ ਸਲਾਮੁ ॥
ਹਿਕੋ ਮੈਡਾ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿਧਾ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ॥
ਮੈ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ॥੨॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਕਾਪੜੀ ਕਿਆ ਭਵਹਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਹੀ ਤਤੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ॥੩॥
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪਾਧੇ ਜੋਇਸੀ ਨਿਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਲੁਕਾਣਾ ॥੪॥
ਇਕਿ ਤਪਸੀ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਤਪੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਤਾਮਸੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥
ਇਕਿ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਦੇ ਸੇ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਹੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥੬॥
ਇਕਿ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਾਧਿਕਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੭॥
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ਸਿਞਾਣੈ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੮॥੧੪॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:
I have searched in the four directions, but no one is mine.
If it pleases You, O Lord Master, then You are mine, and I am Yours. ||1||
There is no other door for me; where shall I go to worship?
You are my only Lord; Your True Name is in my mouth. ||1||Pause||
Some serve the Siddhas, the beings of spiritual perfection, and some serve spiritual teachers; they beg for wealth and miraculous powers.
May I never forget the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. This is the wisdom of the True Guru. ||2||
Why do the Yogis, the revellers, and the beggars wander in foreign lands?
They do not understand the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and the essence of excellence within them. ||3||
The Pandits, the religious scholars, the teachers and astrologers, and those who endlessly read the Puraanas,
Do not know what is within; God is hidden deep within them. ||4||
Some penitents perform penance in the forests, and some dwell forever at sacred shrines.
The unenlightened people do not understand themselves - why have they become renunciates? ||5||
Some control their sexual energy, and are known as celibates.
But without the Guru's Word, they are not saved, and they wander in reincarnation. ||6||
Some are householders, servants, and seekers, attached to the Guru's Teachings.
They hold fast to the Naam, to charity, to cleansing and purification; they remain awake in devotion to the Lord. ||7||
Through the Guru, the Gate of the Lord's Home is found, and that place is recognized.
Nanak does not forget the Naam; his mind has surrendered to the True Lord. ||8||14||

nullnullਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਭਾਲ ਵੇਖੀ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ (ਸੱਚਾ ਦਰਦੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ (ਤਾਂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ (ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣ), ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੧॥nullਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਲਾਮ ਕਰਾਂ? (ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ?) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥null(ਲੋਕ) ਸਿੱਧ ਤੇ ਪੀਰ (ਬਣਨ ਲਈ) ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ (ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਅਭੁੱਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ॥੨॥nullਜੋਗੀ ਤੇ ਲੀਰਾਂ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਰਟਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਜਦੇ ॥੩॥nullਪੰਡਿਤ ਪਾਂਧੇ ਤੇ ਜੋਤਸ਼ੀ ਨਿੱਤ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੀ ਨਾਮ-ਵਸਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ॥੪॥nullਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਤਪੀ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਤਪ ਸਾਧ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਤਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਜਦੇ। ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣਨ ਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੫॥nullਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੀਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਤੀ ਸਦਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਭੀ (ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਤਾਮਸੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ। (ਜਤੀ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਹੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥null(ਪਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮਤ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥nullਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ) ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧੪॥
